Hi. I'm one of the sons of the late Guillermo "Emong" M. Encarnacion of Lemery, Batangas and Crescencia R. Encarnacion of Sampaloc, Manila.

My father was invited by his uncle, Dr. Manuel Montenegro, to Cagayan de Oro in the early 50s. He instantly fell in love with the booming city of Northern Mindanao. So, after my parents got married, they decided to raise the family in CDO.

Cagayan de Oro... my hometown, too.

yes indeed. the list goes on. and one doesn't have to look far to agree to what you are saying.

my mother is gloria marfori, one of the 11 children of Dr. Jose Marfori of Luzon who married Carmen Velez Neri of Cagayan de Oro. Of their 11 children, seven are married to wonderful people who are NOT from cagayan de Oro, namely my mother gloria rosello, Azucena elloso, carmen Dolar, Roberto Marfori, Eva Hipona, Adelina Picardal, and Carolina Pascual.
I think it has largely to do with the thin population of CDO then. I was told that in the 1930s and in the 1940s, there were just four really big families (Velez, Neri, Roa and Chaves), and one's choice of a lifetime partner was sort of limited to these four big families. Pretty soon, everybody became "relatives" with each family knowing every other family down to the last apo, maybe even down to the last gene.

this pariente outlook made every visitor from another city more "mysterious" than the locals, rather interesting to be with and too good of a catch to let go.
so my mother married a cebuano, Jesus Rosello and lived in Cebu, and I married a Kagay-anon, Luis Gabor Echem.
