About Abonitalla.com
Preserving Our Heritage, Honoring Our Roots
This website is maintained by Michael C. Abonitalla, a proud fifth-generation descendant of Juan Jabonitalla and Feliza Salcedo, the patriarch and matriarch who established the Abonitalla Clan in what is now Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro City.
A Journey of Discovery
What began as a tribute to my immediate family in Nazareth, Cagayan de Oro City—particularly honoring the lineage of Faustino Abonitalla and Cristina Saluper—has evolved into something far greater. As I traced the threads of our family history, uncovering stories long forgotten and connections that span generations, this website has become a living chronicle dedicated to the entire Clan of Abonitalla and Salcedo of Kauswagan.
Our Founding Story
In the early 1800s, our ancestors made a remarkable journey from the Ilocos region in Northern Luzon to the shores of Northern Mindanao. Juan Jabonitalla and Feliza Salcedo arrived in what was then called Barrio Balahutao—now Barangay Kauswagan in Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental. With courage and determination, they built a new life in unfamiliar land, becoming among the early settlers of this region.
From their union came five children who would become the foundation of our clan: Ignacio, Faustino, Miguel, Leoncia, and Bonifacio. Each of these children carried forward the legacy of hard work, faith, and family that Juan and Feliza had planted in Mindanao soil.
The Faustino Abonitalla Line
The family of Faustino Abonitalla and Cristina Saluper grew and flourished, giving rise to numerous families that continue to thrive throughout Cagayan de Oro City and beyond. Their descendants have woven themselves into the fabric of this community, carrying forward the values and traditions passed down through five generations.
Our Mission
This website serves as a digital home for the Abonitalla Clan—a place to preserve our history, celebrate our heritage, and strengthen the bonds that connect us across generations and geography. Whether you are a direct descendant searching for your roots, a researcher interested in migration patterns and family histories, or simply curious about the Abonitalla story, you are welcome here.
We are more than a surname. We are a testament to the enduring spirit of those who dared to journey far from home to build something lasting.
